My name is Julie Dance and I am a wife, mother of two sons, a nurse midwife and more recently a CrossFit coach. I am definitely a CrossFit enthusiast. My CrossFit journey began a little over 5 years ago at the urging from two friends of mine who, by the way, continue to CrossFit too. “You will love it” they said AND they were absolutely right. I do and for many reasons.
I grew up playing. We played outside pretty much all day every day as kids; Tag, Hopscotch, Hide and Seek and swimming all summer long. Then sports came along; gymnastics, softball, basketball, cheerleading in junior high and high school. As an adult I have enjoyed softball, mountain biking, snow and water skiing, hiking, running including several marathons, 1/2 marathons and Biathalons. I never lifted a barbell in my life until CrossFit. It just proves it is never too late to learn something new.
Crossfit yields real results. At 53 years old I realize more than ever the benefits of functional fitness. I am not one to “buy in” to anything without knowing why or the truth behind it. After alot of research, reading and studying to obtain my CrossFit Level 1 Coaches Certification, I believe CrossFit has far more benefit than risk. I find CrossFit the most magnetic thing I have ever done. I just keep coming back, day after day. It has been the most consistent form of exercise I have ever done. I love the daily challenges and milestones. Although I have never had a strong competitive nature, I love our local competitions both individual and team. I even ventured far from home to compete in a Crossfit Masters (over 40 years old) competition in Northern California this year and plan to go again next year. I got to play in the same “sand box” as some truly amazing athletes in my age group of 50-54. It was truly an exhilarating experience. The camaraderie is amazing and I love being a part of a growing community that emphasizes a healthy and active lifestyle.
As a coach I want to ensure your safety and a sense of security especially to those who fear CrossFit is “too intense”, “too much” or they are “too old”. We all exercise for different reasons and with different goals in mind. I am excited to help all athletes reach their fullest potential and achieve their individual goals or to help set those goals with you.
